John Dickenson

John "jD" Dickenson is a Freelance Concept Artist who worked on Vanduul, Banu, and Xi'an ships.[1][2][3][4][5][6]

Other Works

In the early 90s he got a call from Scott Williams of the then Homage Studios to help him ink three of the comic books he was working on per month. This new job allowed him to ink over Jim Lee, Jeff Scott Campbell, Travis Charest, and other world class comic book artists. After that he got another big break in 1997, to go work with Justin Sweet & Vance Kovacs at Black Isle Studios, and learn how to paint and create art on the computer.[7]

He worked among others on Icewind Dale and its expansion, Icewind Dale II, Baldur's gate: Dark Alliance II, and Unreal Tournament III.[8] He also worked on Van Buren, the codename for the Fallout 3 project

He worked withWalt Disney Imagineering, Walden Media, Twentieth Century Fox, Warner Bro's Studios, DC and Marvel comics. His art has been featured in the Narnia Films Prince Caspian and Voyage of the Dawn Treader, as well as the last Fantastic Four film, Rise of the Silver Surfer. His work was recently a part of the making of Snow White & the Huntsman, and Jack the Giant Slayer. Mazda, GE, BMW, and Infinity have also used jD' s concepts for helping create some of their television commercials.[9]

He also worked on Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Star Trek Discovery for CBS TV, and Godzilla 2.[9]

He is part of Carbon Canyon Studios.[9]

Trivia

  • His main influences are artists like Rick Griffin, Roger Dean, J.C. Leyendecker, Drew Struzan, and many of the Disney old timers. As he matured as an artist he continued to add new artists to his list such as Sargent, N. C. & Andrew Wyeth, Dean Cornwell, Joseph Clement Coll, Fechin, Winslow Homer, Mucha, Dulac and Bob Kuhn, among many others.[7]
